3 More Sleeps...

You've probably heard that our classroom is moving on Monday to Mr. Potter's current room. His class is heading out to a portable.
At this time, as much as I have been told, the children will line up in the same east entrance location following the morning and recess bells. However, since we are situated in the west hallway, the children will use the washrooms closest to the classroom in the west hallway.

If you have any questions, please direct them to Mr. Comish or Mrs. Saunders.

In September, grade 2 classrooms will be located in the west hallway.

Less Than 10 Days to Go

Excitement is certainly in the air! So many fun activities are keeping our feet firmly planted.

A HUGE THANK YOU to Moms, Lisa, Patti, Katey, Alison and Sabrina for helping out with supervision on our fantastic day at the Elmvale Jungle Zoo. Most of the day, the weather cooperated and the mosquitoes weren't too hungry. I polled the kids and many really liked the animal show, and especially got a big kick out of the peeking raccoons.

We've been fortunate to have so many wonderful volunteers join us to listen to the kids read, help with phonics and spelling, help with math and craft making, and just lend an ear and a warm smile. This Wednesday, we're showing our volunteers how much we appreciate their service. The Volunteers are being recognized at our final assembly and later on there are treats for them to enjoy.

Well I sure hope our Dads liked their stepping stones. We had fun making them and cleaning them up for the fancy wrapping paper. Happy Father's Day!

Here are the photos taken on stepping stone day by

Beautiful Butterflies

Understanding symmetry in nature. Here, you see the children's use of pastels on paper to create
A Butterfly in the Garden. 3-d butterflies were added to show lift. Same idea was carried over to the making of the dragons. By including a 3-d component, the object takes on a life-like appearance as the protrusion appears as though the object moves or has life.

Mon. June 5th: return ZOO trip forms & $15.
Tues.         6th: Fraction lessons continue; butterfly book writing

Another month goes by...

Congratulations to Matthew, Andrew and Henry, recipients of the RESPECT character trait award.
June's character trait is RESPONSIBILITY.

Thank you for the wonderful donations to our CHOCOLATE LOVERS CAMERON CARNIVAL BASKET. Donations are accepted until Tuesday May 30th. All the kids have been excited to see the basket fill up and up with delicious looking treats, baking supplies, snacks and desserts.

Important Dates:
This Friday is BRIGHT COLOURS DAY and JUMP ROPE FOR HEART. Each child is placed on a team. The teams circulate from event to event and participate in heart healthy activities. Please donate on line to the Heart and Stroke Foundation
Wear proper footwear for an active time (no flip flops).

Carnival is Thursday June 8th. The Global Club will be selling hand-crafted Wish Sticks to decorate your flower pot or garden and spread good wishes. Money raised is to support well water construction for clean drinking water in Kenya.

Elmvale Jungle Zoo trip is Thursday June 15th.
Kids get super hungry and thirsty when they're outdoors. Please consider packing a sandwich (much easier than Lunchables), fresh fruit and vegetables, a couple of drinks including a bottle of water in case its hot. The pathways are stones, so its more comfortable to wear closed shoes (running shoes) and avoid flip flops. Plus there's a playground and the ground is stone covered. Please return the permission form & payment (or pay on-line). Remember to put sunscreen and insect repellent on before coming to school.

Dragons & Fairy Tales

Parents, thank you for returning the book bags so I can reorganize the inventory. Mrs. Shea will be doing the same with the Library books. Please consider visiting the Collingwood Public Library to borrow the leveled books available there. Librarian Ashley will be happy to help. Reading levels are increasing, so if you are interested in your child's current level, simply ask via email mhutchinson@scdsb.on.ca .

We have some new residents in our classroom.
Butterfly larvae.

Tracking the growth.
In Reading, the Daily 6 activities are all about Dragons. Also, we are analysizing Fairy Tales to understand the components that tell the story.
Here are snapshots explaining Mrs. Farrell's current SES and Probability Math Goals.

CHOCOLATE DONATIONS FOR THE CARNIVAL BASKETS are due by Tues. May 30th. Aren't we lucky to have such a yummy basket for auction. All the kids agree, they want to WIN THIS BASKET!
